Angamaly lies at the junction of Main Central Road and NH 47. This makes it a point of entry to central Kerala.

It lies very close to the International Airport. In fact some part of it lies in the airport zone. This closeness makes it an ideal place of transition from a sleepy town to a vibrant modern city. All the major trains stop at the Angamaly railway station. It gives connectivity from here to the other points of the country.

Two major National Highways-NH 17 and NH 47 pass through Angamaly.

The state has also carried developmental works in this area. An industrial development estate is the pride of the people of Angamaly. The Bamboo Corporation Ltd. owned by the state is also situated here.

These supporting factors have changed the economy of Angamaly from purely agrarian to increasingly industrial in the last decade. Now a number of different types of manufacturing units have come up in Angamaly.

Economic History of Anagamaly

Angamaly was mostly an agrarian economy based on the production of rice. It is still the staple diet of the people and several rice factories are situated at Angamaly. But the situation is changing. Several industrial units have come up here and service sector is also gaining ground in the economy of Angamaly. The well developed industrial estate established to promote industry in Angamaly by the government of Kerala has become a hub of several small and medium scale enterprises today.

The town is slowly turning into a hub of manufacturing in the district of Ernakulum. This has given rise to a large number of activities in the services sector. Schools colleges, nursing homes, and other services are now available in a great number.

Manufacturing and Industrial sector

Angamaly is slowly taking the shape of a manufacturing hub of the district Ernakulum. There are several big and small cracker manufacturing units in the area. Units manufacturing engineering products have been highly promoted. Power tool manufacturing and distribution is another important sector which has several units in Angamaly. Their products include power and hand tools, chain saw compressors, welding machines, pressure washers and workshop machines.

This has been possible due to the action of the state in establishing the state-controlled Industrial Estate in the south of the town. The industrial estate has several units producing agro and marine products.
Units of bamboo, cane, rattan and similar material are also found here. This sector has been promoted by the State Bamboo Corporation Ltd. established by the state government at Angamaly.

Transformer manufacturing is a very important industrial activity at Angamaly. This unit produces power transformers, electro-magnetic transformers, oil condenser bushes and current transformers as its main products.
